30 years of paper engineering. One Canadian door.

Películas y Papeles Especiales S.A.S. is a Colombian manufacturer with 30 years in market. The company developed PSAP-010 — a greaseproof paper that replaces wax paper in food service applications. It won the 2014 DuPont Award for Innovation and Invention of Plastic Packaging. Colombia was the only Latin American country awarded that year.

Pelypes runs two food packaging lines that Pure Paper Packaging brings into Canada: greaseproof paper (recyclable PE and biodegradable PE) for burger wraps, sandwich liners, deli sheets, and margarine wrapping rolls; and a PLA compostable line made from renewable plant feedstock — BPI-certified, returns to soil after commercial composting.

Pelypes' greaseproof paper is supplied to a US compostable foodservice brand as part of their paper category. The same paper is sourced by a US packaging consultant serving foodservice and airline customers. The company supplies AAK's margarine production line — a global specialty fats and oils manufacturer. And recently began supplying a major US convenience store chain.

Pure Paper Packaging is the exclusive Canadian representative. We bring both lines into Canadian distribution channels, brands building private-label compostable ranges, and direct food service operations.

Why Now

Canada is phasing out PFAS. The replacement matters.

March 5, 2025
Date the Government of Canada published the State of PFAS Report, concluding PFAS as a class are toxic.

Canada's three-phase risk management approach is in motion. Phase 1, starting in 2025, addresses PFAS in firefighting foams. Phase 2 targets PFAS in consumer products, including food packaging materials. Some PFAS subclasses — PFOS, PFOA, and LC-PFCAs — are already being phased out in food packaging under existing CEPA regulations.

For Canadian food service distributors and operators, that means the grease-resistant paper running today carries a regulatory and reputational risk that didn't exist five years ago. Several major Canadian QSR chains have already publicly committed to PFAS-free packaging.

Pelypes' greaseproof paper is built on PE chemistry, not fluorinated coatings. It performs in standard wrapping equipment at competitive landed cost, with recyclable PE and biodegradable PE variants (lab-tested) available. For applications requiring full compostability, the BPI-certified PLA line is the answer.
